The Psalms of Solomon: A Septuagint Reader
编辑: Timothy A. Lee 待发布This is a Greek Septuagint reader for the Psalms of Solomon. The Psalms of Solomon are a response to the crisis of the Roman conquest of Judea and Jerusalem (63 BCE). They are of historical and theological significance. The Psalms speak of divine judgement for sins in Jerusalem (1, 2, 8, 17). The Roman conquest act as judge, yet are judged themselves, just like the Assyrians and Babylonians. Eschatologically, the Psalms speak of both resurrection and destruction (e.g., 2.31, 3.12). And the Psalms contain a rarer mention of messianism for early Jewish writings. They reference the coming Messiah/Christ (Psalm 17) who is a king and son of David. It is designed as a useful, cost-efficient tool for two groups of people. First, for students learning Post-Classical (Koine) Greek after a year’s worth of study this book and its series provide the material to grow in reading ability from primary texts. Second, this book is designed for those studying or curious about the Septuagint.
The book immerses the reader in the Septuagint text in order to build confidence reading it as quickly as possible. To achieve this, all uncommon words that occur 90 times or fewer in the Septuagint are glossed as footnotes. This enables the reader to continue reading every passage unhindered. Therefore, the book complements traditional language grammars and is especially ideal for beginner and intermediate students learning to read Koine Greek. However, even advanced readers will appreciate the glossing of rarer vocabulary, since it saves time reading the text. In addition, unlike other readers, this book is small and light, so very easy to carry around and a pleasure to read.
Other features include:
- Paradigm charts of noun and verbs
- Glossary of all the words not glossed below the text
- Wide margins
- Biblical maps in Greek
The biblical base text is the Cambridge Septuagint, edited by H. B. Swete and based on Codex Vaticanus.
